BACKLASH, Year 2

This is the first pay-per-view of the new year.

Match 1. Val Venis vs. Brian Pillman   WWF European Championship
Pillman busted Val open with a huge right hand. He then hit a clothesline and a standing heel kick. Pillman continued with a fisherman suplex. They went to the outside where Val landed his Big Package suplex. Val busted Pillman open with a running DDT. Val threw Pillman into the steps. He picked Pillman up, but was caught in a roll-up and Pillman got the win.

Match 2. Lita vs. Trish Stratus   WWF Women's Championship
Will any of the other Divas interfere? Lita placed Trish on the announce table and DDT'd her through it in less than three minutes. She then brought Trish back into the ring and landed a reverse Twist of Fate. A minute or so later, she hit the Twist of Fate to retain her title.

Match 3. Test vs. Rikishi   WWF Intercontinental Championship
Rikishi broke out of a camel clutch and busted Test open with a back elbow smash. They moved to the outside where Test landed a pump handle slam. Rikishi got up and connected with a chokeslam. Test got up and returned the favor with a sidewalk slam. Back in the ring, Test hit another pump handle slam and won.

Match 4. The Rock vs. Big Boss Man
The Rock caught Boss Man in a dragon screw takedown and hit the spine buster. Boss Man placed Rock on the announce table and hit an elbow drop, driving both men to the floor. Boss Man then hit a huge spine buster of his own. Back in the ring, Rock made a comeback with a Samoan drop and reverse DDT. Rock hit another spine buster and locked in the Sharpshooter. Boss Man broke out and landed a tilt-a-whirl slam to win.

Match 5. Tornado Tag - Undertaker and Triple H vs. Edge and Christian   WWF Tag Team Championship
Can Taker and Triple H make it a sweep for the Corporate Ministry? Edge and Triple H left the ring very early. Christian left to help his partner. Taker was beating Christian down with the steel steps. Edge busted Triple H open by smashing his head against the turnpost. Triple H caught Edge's leg and hit the Pedigree outside the ring to win.

Match 6. Kane vs. Chris Jericho
Jericho used his quickness to get the upper hand on Kane early. Jericho speared Kane through the barricade. Kane got up and lifted Jericho by the throat with a two-hand chokeslam. He then hit a big boot and a side slam. Kane then hit his chokeslam and a clothesline to win.

Main Event. Kurt Angle vs. Bret Hart   WWF Championship
Outside the ring, Bret hit Angle with a piledriver and busted him open. Angle placed Bret on the announce table. He went to grapple Hart, but he reversed it and DDT'd Angle through the table. Bret then speared Angle through the barricade. Angle made it to his feet and landed three German suplexes. Bret clotheslined Angle onto a ladder and got the win.

Recap: I'm surprised Pillman was able to pick up the victory. I was expecting to see Stephanie or Victoria in the Women's match. Bret is the new champion!
